Cybersecurity and Online Safety in the Classroom

Cyber security and online safety are two very real areas of concern affecting school communities worldwide. In a post pandemic world, where our usage of technology has leaped exponentially, we have to ask some very challenging questions of ourselves. Do school leaders and educators understand the very real and detrimental threat that we face around cyber attacks? Why does cyber security matter? What is a cyber attack? What do you need to look out for? What are the risks? Where is your data stored? Is it secure? Is it backed up? What happens if my school is victim to a cyber attack?

The dangers are scary enough to make headline news, and an attack will definitely make headline news! But understanding cyber security and trying to protect yourself from a cyber attack can be very challenging in itself.

We’ll look at online safety and understanding the vital role in helping to keep our school communities safe online in a world. More specifically, we’ll explore popular online platforms (such as TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat etc) and identify the key challenges in helping to keep children safe whilst they’re using these platforms. You’ll also learn exactly what to do if you or your schools is a victim of an attack.

The workshop highlights the dangers and the sometimes uncomfortable changes teachers need to address and make, to ensure that we’re all staying as safe and as secure as possible in an ever evolving digital world.
