Level Up Your Computational Thinking Toolkit: Coding, Scrappy Circuits, & Micro:Bits for All Learners
This workshop explores computational thinking in the classroom, beginning with an in-depth introduction and continuing with practical applications that use a variety of hands-on examples. Throughout the workshop, we incorporate tools tailored to a range of school budgets. We start by experimenting with coding platforms students can use for authentic projects. Then we’ll move on to Scrappy Circuits, utilising inexpensive, easy-to-find materials that showcase computational thinking in action. Finally, we’ll focus on Micro:Bits hardware to show how it can expand the offerings to other content areas. Whether you are just starting out or have ample experience with computational thinking, this session provides lessons, templates, and resources.
From Textbooks to Galaxies: Design VR Adventures that Ignite Learning Across the Curriculum
Have you ever wanted to bring maths alive in three dimensions or virtual reality? What about designing virtual tours of literary scenes, historical locations, or scientific experiments? In this workshop, you’ll discover the allure of virtual reality by creating your very own virtual environment using CoSpaces, an engaging digital platform where students design virtual and augmented reality experiences. With a drag-and-drop coding system, you will learn how to create and share projects that can be interacted with on any internet-connected device, or with a VR headset hardware. You will learn how to construct scenes, add custom 3D models, and code your virtual world. This workshop explores examples of how CoSpaces is integrated across the curriculum and subjects. We will discuss best practices and you’ll receive lesson templates, scoring rubrics, and examples from various content areas.
