Science is a Second Language:  Utilizing Academic Vocabulary

Welcome to a transformative workshop designed for educators, researchers, and science enthusiasts eager to enhance their communication skills and delve deeper into the world of scientific discourse. The "Science is a Second Language" workshop is an immersive experience that focuses on the strategic use of academic vocabulary to foster clearer, more precise, and impactful communication within the realm of science. During the workshop, we will focus on the following:

The Blueprint:  Building a STEM Challenge for All Ages

Are you ready to spark curiosity, creativity, and collaboration within your school community? Join me for “The Blueprint”  workshop, where I will guide you through the process of creating a dynamic and engaging school-wide STEM Challenge event. This workshop is designed for educators, administrators, and anyone passionate about fostering a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among students. We’ll work through the process of selecting a STEM discipline, discuss grade-level tiering, and map out the challenge. You will leave with a comprehensive plan to organize a school-wide STEM Challenge that not only enriches the educational experience, but also fosters a lifelong love for STEM subjects.

Using Inquiry to Teach Content:  Science and Engineering Practices

Join me for an engaging and interactive workshop designed to empower educators with innovative strategies for teaching science content through the lens of Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs). This workshop will provide participants with a unique opportunity to explore the integration of SEPs into their science curriculum, fostering a dynamic and inquiry-based approach to learning. You'll engage in hands-on activities and live demonstrations that illustrate the practical application of SEPs in the classroom.

Come experience firsthand how integrating engineering practices can enhance the learning experience for students and promote critical thinking skills.

NOTE: due to personal reasons, Dr. Antoine-Morse cannot attend this year, but we are lucky to have her colleague Zaveola Banguel step in as a substitute to do the same workshops!
